“Equipped with our five senses, along with telescopes and microscopes and mass spectrometers and seismographs and magnetometers and particle accelerators and detectors across the electromagnetic spectrum, we explore the universe around us and call the adventure science.”
- Neil DeGrasse Tyson-The NATO Science for Peace project N G5794 is aimed at development of an optical magnetometric system for security screening checkpoints. The system comprises a compartment for feedback-based real-time cancellation of a background magnetic field, which allows fast and reliable revealing of potentially dangerous metal objects, and a wide-range magnetometer, allowing localization of harmful object and evaluation of its danger level. The proposed system can be an alternative or complementary option to existing walkthrough metal detectors and baggage scanners, providing higher sensitivity, reliability, and much safer operation. Besides homeland security and safety applications, the proposed system can find industrial, technological and medical applications.
Compass A compass is a magnetometer that measures the direction of an ambient magnetic field, the Earth's magnetic field.
Read at WikiSQUID Superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) is a very sensitive magnetometer used to measure extremely subtle magnetic fields, based on superconducting loops containing Josephson junctions.
